At Dementia NI, we have an incredible team of volunteers who help us achieve our mission of driving positive change for the many people living with dementia across Northern Ireland. Our volunteers gift their time for many reasons and because it's valuable we want to ensure the time you spend with us is meaningful and enjoyable. That's why we offer a range of opportunities where everyone will feel welcomed and valued.

Anyone can volunteer and we value the help we get from all our supporters. We always have new roles coming up so keep checking back if there isn't anything for you right now.

The amount of time needed is different for each opportunity and will be outlined in the role description. However, many of our roles our flexible and we'll be happy to discuss your availability before starting. No matter how much time you have to give, there is a role for you.
It depends on your motivations for volunteering. You'll meet new people, further your knowledge of dementia and add to your skills. It can also be a good way to boost your CV. Many of our volunteers find it rewarding to make a difference in the lives of local people living with dementia. We're confident that you will too.
You’ll get an induction and we'll provide any necessary training to help you perform your role effectively.
To provide support to a person living with dementia, you need to be 18 or over. There is no upper age limit for our volunteers, we welcome students, retired people and everyone in between. All you need is a desire to improve the lives of local people with dementia.
No, we'll reimburse you for reasonable expenses while volunteering with us (for example, travel and other relevant costs). The type of expenses you can claim for will be agreed before you start your role.
No, our Volunteer Coordinator will have an informal chat with you over the phone to find out more about you and your interests. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and to discover which volunteer role is the right one for you.
The skill set required depends on the opportunity. For many roles, there are no specific skills required and we only look for enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to improve the lives of local people with dementia. Any role requirements will be clearly stated in the role description.

Yes, if circumstances change and you can no longer meet your commitments as a volunteer, you can leave and we will thank you for the commitment you have shown. We encourage you to talk to us before making the decision to leave.
